‘Secret Level’ Video Game Anthology Tops Prime Video Charts

If you’re anything like us, then you love video games. You love it even more when those games are successfully adapted into movies and TV shows, as the case has been lately with such hits as The Last of Us, Fallout, and Twisted Metal. Now we can add another series to that list, as the animated show Secret Level has managed to be a smash with viewers thus far, catapulting it to the top of the charts.

Premiering on Prime Video on Dec. 10, Secret Level is now the number one show on the streaming service ahead of other recent debuts, including Pop Culture Jeopardy, Cross, The Sticky, and the reboot of Cruel Intentions. It’s no surprise really, especially when you consider who are all involved in the project. Secret Level features the voice talents of heavy hitters like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Kevin Hart, Laura Bailey, and Keanu Reeves.

If ‘Secret Level’ Gets a Second Season, We Need It to Tackle One Video Game Franchise

‘Secret Level’ is coming soon and has huge potential for future seasons. One of those should leave players prepared to die — over and over again.

First revealed at Gamescom back in August, Secret Level offers a bite-sized look at some of the most beloved games in history, giving us fresh takes on Dungeons & Dragons, Pac-Man, Warhammer 40,000, and Unreal Tournament, to name a few. Comprising eight episodes, the longest in the first season is 19 minutes, while the shortest clocks in at 10 minutes, making it easily digestible in one sitting, which greatly appeals to our fear of commitment.

‘Secret Level’ Season 1: Part 2 Is Not Far Off

Of course, with the first part of Secret Level Season 1 being so short, the question now becomes: when will the second half of the season air? Thankfully, we have an answer, and to everyone’s surprise, it isn’t far off. Seriously, we’re talking about a matter of days.

All seven episodes of Secret Level Season 1: Part 2 will drop on Prime Video on Tuesday, Dec. 17, and they’ll encompass even more beloved games we’re quite familiar with. These include Mega Man, The Outer Worlds 2, Spelunky, and the entire PlayStation console. There’s no word yet on episode length, so we’re not sure at this point what the longest and shortest of the second half will be, but we’re pretty positive that – like the first half – you’ll be able to binge-watch it in a single sitting.

As to what the future holds for Secret Level and if we’ll get a Season 2? The word is still out on that one, but if it happens, creator Tim Miller and executive producer/supervising director Dave Wilson mentioned some other video games they’d like to put their own spin on. Speaking with Screen Rant, Wilson said that he needs “to find a way to make a Pong episode,” with Miller commenting that Fortnite is the “Moby Dick of video games.”

For now, nothing has yet to be confirmed, so we’ll have to remain content with all that Secret Level Season 1 has to offer. With “PAC-MAN: Circle” being our favorite episode so far, it’ll be interesting to see how and if they manage to top it in the second half. Either way, we’re just pleased as punch to be getting more video game adaptations, especially ones like Secret Level that put a twisted spin on some of our old favorites.
